Around 200 capesize bulkers are due to hit the water this year, with a another 100 scheduled for 2017. Further down the road a large number of recently ordered Valemaxes will come into service.
These numbers, given by Ian Roper, a commodities strategist at Macquarie at the Singapore Iron Ore Forum, suggest that the shipping industry is betting that global volumes of iron ore will continue to increase.
