The Grimstad-based owner is buying the 1,220-car-equivalent-unit (ceu) Autopride (built 1997). UECC is a joint venture between Japan’s NYK Line and Sweden’s Wallenius Lines.

Sources say Ugland is paying $7m for the Autopride, which will continue to be on charter to UECC.

Johan Martin Ugland of JB Ugland confirms the purchase but declines to comment on the price.

“It [the purchase] is part of our strategy to be a tonnage provider in this segment and we have no intention of becoming an operator.
