Rates for neo-panamax tonnage are rising for the first time this year. Several vessels up to 9,000 teu — formerly known as post-panamax vessels — are booked to transit the Central American waterway after its grand opening ceremony on Sunday.
Lines are opting for ships of up to this size, even though technically the enlarged canal is capable of taking ships up to 13,000 teu.
