A number of shipping guests were among a swathe of top-flight delegates and heads of state invited to a two-day event this weekend to celebrate the official opening of the expanded Panama Canal as speculation swirls over which gas carriers will be among the first to use the waterway.
Events for some of those invited are due to kick off at 09:00 Saturday with a visit to the new locks on the Pacific side of the canal.
