Chinese shipowners are growing their presence in Norway’s Baumarine dry bulk pool, says Olso-based Klaveness Shipping.

The recent entry by China Cos-co Shipping of two post-panamax vessels — the 92,500-dwt Elvia (built 2010) and 93,300-dwt Piavia (built 2011) — into Baumarine marks a breakthrough in the pool’s China recruitment drive.

“If not a breakthrough, at least now we feel we have a firmer stronghold in China, both in cargo and in pool members,” said Klaveness chief executive Lasse Kristoffersen.
