A dwindling orderbook for multipurpose (MPP) vessels may provide a glimmer of hope for a long-suffering sector.

Orders for the “F-type” design — considered backbone of the fleet of several MPP operators — have halved as owners adjust to a weakening market and tight financial constraints.

Nearly 50 of the popular design were in the pipeline but that figure has fallen by half as a weakening market, financial constraints, delays and cancellations take hold, according to German broker Toepfer Transport.
