A recently commissioned report has exposed shipping’s poor safety record on fires in European waters over the past decade, with many incidents involving passenger and roll-on roll-off (ro-ro) ferries.
The report — “Ship Fire Incidence Analysis” — was produced by the Finnish Border Guard as part of a review into the capability of the Baltic Sea Maritime Incident Response Group (MIRG) — a multinational emergency-response team with specialist fire-fighting capacity.
