Is the question of vessel age in the US Jones Act still worth asking?

The sinking of TOTE Maritime’s ro-ro El Faro has raised a host of questions over the past nine months about what may have caused the tragedy, which took 33 lives. And as we have been exploring many of them, one of the earliest questions asked — whether the US Jones Act keeps ships on the water longer than is safe — no longer seems worth asking.
