Michael Gotsis-backed Eurotankers is believed to have beaten off competition from Adam Polemis’s New Shipping and other unknown international buyers for the 303,900-dwt Kaminesan (built 2003).

Brokers tell TradeWinds that Eurotankers has paid $28.5m for the Universal Shipbuilding-constructed vessel, which would provide further evidence of a fall in VLCC asset values.

Others link the ship to a $30m sale involving Chinese storage buyers but, as TradeWinds went to press, a consensus was forming that Eurotankers had prevailed in one of this week’s more closely watched deals.
