More than $1.15bn of dry bulk loans in the shipping portfolio of troubled Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) are now classified as non-performing, according to its recent filings.

Dry bulk has been mostly responsible for a near-trebling of the shipping loans classified at the bank’s lowest credit-risk rating of “AQ10”, which is considered to carry a 100% probability of default, the filings indicate.
