Officer vows to fight on in gender battle with Wallem

It was the dream job that Sophia Walker had been waiting for.

Wallem Ship Management was looking for 10 deck officers without experience and came calling for recruits at her college in the UK town of Fleetwood.

In a difficult recruitment market, it was a chance to get a start on a career at sea.

“As a newly qualified officer, I was really excited about the Wallem job,” she said in a phone interview with TradeWinds.
