Containership owners are capitulating to charterers’ demands as rates near all-time lows. Owners’ representatives claim that charter party agreements designed to protect them are being brushed aside the very moment owners are short of cash.
They claim the relationship between leading European lines and German tonnage providers could soon be beyond repair because owners are being “bullied” into making charter concessions.
