In the 31 August filing with South Korea’s bankruptcy court, Hanjin cited declining box traffic into Europe as one reason for its demise. But the ripples of that filing are being felt especially in the US, as shippers and their customers face seeing their cargo stranded.
By most estimates Hanjin had about a 3% share of total containership volume. But it had a larger share in the transpacific trade between Asia and the US.
