A China shipbuilding giant is to be created by merging 13 yards of China Shipping Group (CSG) and Cosco.

It follows the formation of China Cosco Holdings (CSH), with merger talks having already started, according to informed sources.

The plan could come to fruition as early as the end of this year.

CSG controls five shipyards, while Cosco has six fully owned yards and two joint ventures with Japanese shipbuilder Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) — Nantong Cosco KHI Ship Engineering Co (Nacks) and Dalian Cosco Kawasaki Shipbuilding (Dacks).
