Alexandria Shipping has secured a court order seizing $3.35m in operator Pacific Gulf Shipping’s assets in the United States after a seemingly-harmless dry-bulk cargo turned dangerous.

The order buy US District Judge Richard Andrews follows a London arbitration claim by Alexandria affiliate Naiad Maritime, the registered owner of the Greek shipping company’s 52,400-dwt Marylisa V (built 2003).

Pacific Gulf chartered the supramax bulker in August for a trip that involved loading palm kernel shells in Penang, Indonesia, for discharge in Poland.
