The single-lift ship will be renamed Pioneering Spirit, the company said in an e-mail statement.
Pieter Schelte, father of current Allseas’ president Edward Heerema, was a Dutch officer in the Waffen-SS during the Second World War, for which he was tried and jailed.
In recent previous announcements, Allseas tried to keep some distance from Pieter Schelte’s Nazi past.
But it decided to give in following the extent of the public outcry from various organisations.
Allseas said: “The new name of the vessel reflects what it stands for: a new technological step in platform installation and decommissioning.
