The port of Halifax in Canada wants to shift a boxship left stranded by the collapse of the US operation American Feeder Lines (AFL).

The 700–teu AFL New England (built 1996, formerly Hohesand) has been anchored in Bedford Basin for almost a month.

The Chronicle Herald website reported that the 14-strong crew is running out of fuel and food, according to Michele Peveril of the Halifax Port Authority.

“What would happen if nothing’s done is the ship would then basically be stranded and could potentially be a navigational hazard,” Peveril added.
