A total of 373 out of 756 boxes have been removed from the grounded Lomar Shipping boxship Kea Trader off New Caledonia.

The 2,194-teu ship (built 2017) got stuck on a reef off New Caledonia on 12 July.

Lomar said "substantial progress" has been made to remove containers, using a specialist Sikorsky Skycrane heavy-lift helicopter.

"Adverse winter swells had generally prevented vessels from coming alongside to receive containers from the ship’s own gear," the shipowner said.
