The shareholders in German multipurpose (MPP) company dship Carriers had good reason for moving into ship operating, according to global vice president Lars Feller.

The forwarding arm of its Swiss-based parent company — Deugro — began losing cargoes when shippers started fixing project cargoes with carriers directly.

But dship is increasingly an independent carrier, which Feller believes serves as a hedge against a tightening charter market and a potential shortage of MPP ships.
