Overcapacity on the Asia-north Europe trade is leading liner operators to deploy some of their largest containerships in other services, which threatens freight rates on routes with lesser volumes.

Boxship behemoths of more than 18,000 teu were designed with the services between Asia and northern Europe in mind.

But a swathe of deliveries and uncertainty over demand for freight has seen liner operators unveil plans to deploy these monster boxships elsewhere.
