Shippers react as more container lines talk fuel surcharges

Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) and CMA CGM have joined the growing number of container lines planning a low-sulphur fuel surcharge from the start of next year.

But shippers have claimed that lines are implementing surcharges a year early and urge the use of scrubbers as a solution to comply with IMO 2020.

The Global Shippers' Forum (GSF) has argued that all newbuildings should be fitted with scrubbers and as many as possible should be retrofitted.
