Anglo-Dutch shipowner Carisbrooke Shipping has revealed a green fleet-renewal plan to tackle the shortage of efficient and modern shortsea vessels.

The privately-owned general cargo and multipurpose specialist owns or part owns 38 vessels with an average of 11 years, ranging from 5,000 dwt to 34,000 dwt.

The company, formed in 1969, has now drawn up designs for diesel-electric 'E Trader' ships to take advantage of shortsea shipping's potential for new lower-emission fuels and innovative technology, Carisbrooke told TradeWinds.
