China says it will slow down steel production to reach carbon-emission goals, but probably will not be hitting the brakes any time soon, according to a Bimco analyst.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced in late December that the country would lower its steel output this year.

But it may still keep producing the alloy — while buying massive amounts of iron ore — as long as the government keeps issuing economic stimulus money, Bimco analyst Peter Sand said.
