Diana Shipping has fixed a panamax vessel well above a going rate that has been depressed by the coronavirus pandemic.
The Semiramis Palou-led owner of 41 bulkers on Monday entered into a time charter with Cargill International for 81,297-dwt Leto (built 2010) at $9,000 per day.
The rate for the hire, starting on 21 May and lasting until at least 15 July 2021, is 40% higher than the Baltic Exchange's weighted time-charter equivalent average of $5,392 per day.
