Diana Shipping has employed one of its four Newcastlemaxes at a lower rate and on a shorter contract than the previous hire.
The Simeon Palios-led owner of 40 bulkers chartered 206,040-dwt Philadelphia (built 2012) for 14 months, 17 months maximum, to BHP Billiton Freight Singapore at $14,500 per day.
The New York-listed company previously fixed the ship for 20 months at $20,000 per day to Koch Shipping, according to its records.
