Thai bulker owner Precious Shipping is predicting a "pleasant" effect from IMO 2020 low-sulphur rules next year.
Managing director Khalid Hashim said vessel supply in its geared 10,000-dwt to 70,000-dwt segment will be restricted by slow-steaming and scrapping.
He added: "In our sector of the market, just 4% of ships by dwt are scheduled to fit scrubbers, whilst most owners are sticking with burning compliant low sulphur fuel oil (LSFO)."
