New York-listed Pangaea Logistics Solutions is continuing to modernise its fleet with the acquisition of a secondhand panamax from a Japanese shipowner.

Pangaea chief executive Ed Coll told TradeWinds that the bulker company is paying about $18.2m for the 79,000-dwt Robin Wind (built 2013), which is listed in databases as owned by Kurushima Senpaku of Japan.

The owner and operator, which is based in Newport, Rhode Island, will rename the Japanese-built vessel Bulk Promise and Coll said it will employ it in Pangaea's bauxite contract business in Jamaica.
