Greek bulker in collision with Malaysian Marine ship

A Greek bulker has been involved in a collision with a Malaysian government vessel off Singapore.
The incident happened on Saturday off Tuas, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore said.
The 77,000-dwt bulker Pireas (built 2006) was en route from Singapore to its next port of call at Tanjung Pelepas when the collision took place with the Malaysian Marine Department ship Polaris.
After refuelling at Singapore’s eastern bunkering anchorage south of Bedok, Pireas entered Singapore port limits off Tuas, slowed down, changed direction and collided with Polaris, MPA said.
Pireas told MPA about the collision and said there was no damage to its vessel.
The vessel was allowed to proceed with its journey to Tanjung Pelepas.
MPA said: "In addition to sending official notifications to both the Marine Department Malaysia and Greece’s Hellenic Bureau for Marine Casualties Investigation to inform them about the incident, MPA is also gathering and reviewing information such as the vessel records and video footage of the collision and has requested a formal incident report from both vessels."
There were no reported injuries or oil leakage.
MPA said it is "deeply concerned that the presence of the unauthorised vessels in our port limits can cause confusion for the international shipping community and threaten navigational safety in our waters".
The agency is investigating the incident.
Pireas operator Chronos Shipping has been contacted for further information.
