A German-managed general cargoship with several problems found itself on the list of 17 ships detained in US ports during September.

The US Coast Guard also found numerous violations on a Kopco-managed ro-ro.

The 4,160-dwt Onego Spirit (built 1991) was detained in Houston on 11 September when inspectors found the heavy fuel oil purifier system to have a leak that presented a fire hazard, the Coast Guard says.

The purifier system also had a flex hose and clip not originally designed for it, and the vessel was unable to show a second source of energy for the emergency generator.
