All 15 crew members have been rescued after their boxship sank off Indonesia on Saturday.

The Republika daily reported the 89-metre Mitra Sejahtera IX went down off Makassar following an unspecified accident.

The Indonesian coast guard said it was carrying 147 containers.

The company appealed to other vessels to be alert to the dangers of floating boxes.

Three nearby ships picked up the crew, some of whom were in the sea wearing life jackets.
