Greek shipowner Laskaridis Shipping has picked up two awards for rescuing seafarers in the last year through the the Automated Mutual Assistance Vessel Rescue (AMVER) system.

Under the AMVER system, operated by the United States Coastguard, around 22,000 ships volunteer their services globally to assist seafarers in distress by reporting their positions daily.

The organisation estimates it has saved around 2,800 lives at sea since the year 2000.
