Norwegian shipowner Torvald Klaveness is bringing in an independent investigator as part of a safety drive following a serious accident on a combination carrier in Australia.

The chief officer of the 73,000-dwt Barcarena (built 2001) was hospitalised in a fall at the port of Bunbury at the end of last month.

Ernst Andre Meyer, chief operating officer of Torvald Klaveness, told TradeWinds he could not reveal confidential information about the exact nature of the injuries, but said the condition of the officer has improved.
