A ro-ro vessel operated by Glenhallen Shipping of Malta ended up sitting on the bottom of the port of Algiers on Wednesday.

The 8,191-gt ro-ro Ivan (built 1996) listed heavily to starboard after what local authorities said was a loss of stability that led to an ingress of water onto the vehicle deck.

An investigation will look into whether improper ballasting may have been the cause.

The ships 17-strong crew were reported safe, although six were treated in hospital for minor injuries.
