A cruiseship heading to a Mexican scrapyard under tow was driven ashore during a storm on Monday.

High waves and winds reportedly pushed the 15,400-gt Enchanted Capri (built 1975) onto a beach in the Alvarado municipality near the city of Veracruz in the Gulf of Mexico, local media reported.

The ship was said to have been anchored offshore during a scrap tow from Coatzacoalcos to Tampico.
