Total CO2 emissions from shipping are still way below 2008 levels, a study from the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) has found.
The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) welcomed the acknowledgement by ICCT that the shipping industry has become more fuel efficient and that emissions appear to have stabilised.
“While total CO2 emissions from the international sector appear to have increased slightly (0.9%) since 2012, this is nevertheless encouraging in view of the increase in maritime trade over the same period,” ICS said.
