Smit Salavage has been called in to tackle the Nuovo Naviservice general cargo ship which grounded in a dramatic fashion off the coast of Sardinia last Saturday night.

Italian media reports indicate that a salvage team from the Rotterdam-headquartered company arrived at the wreck of the 8,000-dwt CDRY Blue (built 2010) during the Christmas holiday.

Their first task is to prevent further pollution from the grounded ship, which is said to have already leaked a small amount of oil.
