The South African Maritime Authority (Samsa) has opened an investigation into the loss of 23 boxes from a Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) boxship last week.
The incident, which involved the 9,411-teu MSC Palak (built 2016), happened during 3.5 metre swells at Algoa Bay near Port Elisabeth on the Eastern Cape.
The containers were lost while the MSC Palak was at anchor.
