The X-Press Feeders containership that caught fire off Sri Lanka two weeks ago is said to have sunk, fouling the country's waters.

In what was already called the worst marine disaster in the country's history, the Singapore-flagged, 2,743-teu X-Press Pearl (built 2021) released "tonnes of plastic pellets" and chemicals into Sri Lankan waters, pushing the navy to suspend fishing along an 80-km (50-mile) stretch of coastline, Reuters reported.
