Profits for the booming container ship sector more than doubled in the second quarter, making seven consecutive quarters of record earnings, according to a financial advisor.

The sector posted a “mind-altering” $63.7bn in net income for the quarter, versus $28.6bn during the same period last year, according to estimates by Blue Alpha Capital founder and former liner industry executive John McCown.

“With stair-step increases over the last two years, this is the seventh straight quarter of record earnings,” he wrote in his latest McCown Container Results Observer report.
