Containership owners are holding off on placing orders for new ships amid Covid-19 uncertainty and green technological advances, opting instead for used tonnage.

There are 285 boxships on order through 2022 that will join a worldwide fleet that stands at 5,307 units, according to VesselsValue.

"I think, if anything, today uncertainty has not abated from Covid" despite a recent recovery in rates, Capital Product Partners chief executive Jerry Kalogiratos said on Thursday as a boxship-sector panellist during Capital Link's online New York Maritime forum.
