CMA CGM has become the latest shipping company to pin its footballing colours to the mast.

The Rodolphe Saade-led company has agreed to sponsor French footballing side Olympique de Marseille (OM) in the ocean carrier’s home city.

The liner company will be the French footballing team’s main sponsor for the 2023-2024 season.

Its logo will appear on the jerseys of the football team for two seasons starting from 1 July 2023.

It will also appear at the Orange Velodrome, the 67,000-seat stadium known for its special atmosphere, as well as at other training sites including ‘La Commanderie’, as the Robert Louis-Dreyfus training centre is known.

Passion and pride

CMA CGM described the partnership as “symbolising passion and pride” which involved “two great institutions that are highly symbolic of the Marseille region.”

“CMA CGM and OM share strong local roots, as well as their ability to combine passion, expertise and talent in Marseille and beyond,” it said.

The partnership will involve all components of the Club, from the youth teams and the training centre all the way up to the professional women’s and men’s teams.

Founded in 1899, Olympique de Marseille is the only French club to have won the Champions League.

With 11 French league titles and 10 French cups, it has one of the most impressive records in French football.

Currently, Olympique de Marseille ranks fourth in La Ligue. That is just one below CMA CGM, which ranks third in the league of the largest liner shipping companies.
