France’s CMA CGM has chopped its $16.9bn debt portfolio by more than half as it continues to reap the bonanza of the container shipping boom.

Net debt amounted to $7.7bn by the end of 2021, down $9.2bn from the previous year.

The reduction was driven by a high level of free cash flow generation on the back of a strong operational performance.
