A shortage of large ships has forced some carriers to offer "tandem sailings" — the practice of deploying two smaller ships in parallel instead of a single large sailing.

NileDutch has replaced the 8,189-teu Conti Makalu (ex-NileDutch Makalu, built 2004) on its Asia-West Africa service with two smaller ships, according to Alphaliner.

The Netherlands-based line has deployed the 5,466-teu Wide India (built 2015) and the 4,178-teu Teal Hunter (built 2010) on a loop operated with around a dozen ships of 8,500 teu to 9,500 teu, the analyst said.
