Cosco Shipping Specialised Carriers is said to have selected three domestic state-owned shipyards to build a first wave of 15 LNG dual-fuel pure car/truck carrier (PCTC) newbuildings, with more orders expected to follow.
Newbuilding sources said the deals are going to Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding and Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS).
The ships will see Cosco Specialised’s PCTC fleet quadruple to 20 vessels as it has five on the water.
Cosco Specialised is said to have awarded six firm 7,500-ceu newbuildings each to GSI and Fujian Mawei, while SWS will be building three ships.
