The exodus of containerships from Germany continues unabated as the country’s dominance in the boxship charter market wanes, new figures show.

German tonnage providers sold 127 boxships between January 2020 and April 2021, according to Alphaliner estimates.

Some 59 were snapped up by liner operators, while a further 68 vessels were sold to non-operating owners outside of Germany.

More German ships are expected to change hands in the coming months, despite the rise in asset prices and charter rates, the analyst added.
