The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) is to push ahead with a planned increase in tolls across a broad range of ship types next year although the original January implementation date has been delayed to account for IMO 2020.

In a statement the Japanese Shipowners’ Association (JSA) said that it appreciated that the ACP would delay the hike in tolls until April rather than January 1 when shipowners will be dealing with the IMO 2020 regulation on the sulphur content of fuel.
