Bangladesh’s Karnaphuli Group has entered the South East Asian liner trades using two ships that were recently acquired from Singapore’s Pacific International Lines (PIL).

The 1,550-teu Sahare and Sarera (both built 1997) were acquired recently as Kota Wajar and Kota Waris, and have been deployed on a newly launched service linking Chattogram with Singapore and Port Klang.

While no pricing details have been disclosed, sale-and-purchase brokers suggest that vessels of this vintage would probably have been sold at close to their scrap value, which in the case of both ships would be in the region of $2.67m
