German shipowner Krey Schiffahrts has expanded its fleet with the acquisition of two multipurpose (MPP) ships.

The Leer-based company this week emerged as the new owner of the 17,300-dwt BBC Rio Grande and BBC Thames (both built 2008).

The ice-class tweendeckers, which have two cranes with 60-tonne lifting capacities, were previously operated in the fleets of compatriot owners Carsten Rehder and Freese Shipping.
