Maersk CEO Soren Skou has launched a stout defence of its fleet capacity as rivals gear up to take delivery of mega-boxships.

Asked on the company's conference call whether the group was at a competitive disadvantage due to its lack of orders for 23,000-teu units, the Danish executive said: "I think this will be completely negligible.

"Together with MSC, we have by far the biggest fleet of large ships so I think we have a competitive advantage on ship size."
