The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) wants to make it easier for aggrieved US shippers to file complaints against liner and terminal operators.

In an FMC meeting held this week, commissioner Rebecca Dye pitched a series of recommendations that would, in part, raise the amount it can fine liner operators while expanding protections against retaliation.

If enacted, the changes aim to incentivise wronged domestic shippers to come forward and receive redress.
